The Wilson's Cruise

Here are some shots submitted to "TWN" by Aunt Mary after the Wilson's returned from their Caribbean cruise this month. Luckily, they were able to avoid the hurricane for the most part, but it caused some major airline problems for them when they were to return to Louisville. The weary travelers made it to the Whited's in Cincy on Sunday morning after the Wilster had an unexpected and unwelcome encounter with a state trooper along the way. At least the cruise was great. Hey, did anyone else notice that the Wilster is pimped out like Regis in that suit with the yellow shirt/tie combo?

VACATION AT THE SOARING EAGLE

The Whited family just returned from their summer vacation. They decided to keep it simple and not travel too far with the little one. They rented the Soaring Eagle cabin in Brown county, right on the Monroe County reservoir. As always, enough things ocurred to keep the vacation plenty interesting and fun, but bordering on the brink of a fiasco. On Thursday morning, everybody got up and got ready to head out to Brown County state park for some swimming, some hiking, and a picnic. While loading up Carson in his carseat, Marcus dropped the keys to the cabin in Carson's lap, and immediately scooped them back up and put them in his pocket. But just before they got into the van, Marcus realized that there was one of the two cabin keys missing from the ring, and the loop was disattached enough for a key to have fallen off. They looked everywhere. After 20 minutes of stressful searching, Kim found the key under Carson's butt. She had no idea that Marcus had dropped the keys in the youngster's lap, so she was very puzzeled with her discovery. Right after the big sigh of relief, there was another interesting turn of events. As they heading up the very steep driveway to head to the park, the van got stuck on the wet gravel. It was rather treacherous because it was on a curve and the edge of a curve was a very drastic cliff. Marcus suggested that Kim get the two boys out of the van and walk back down to the cabin while daddy backed the van carefully down the driveway. "The way things were going that morning, I just wanted to be extra safe" said the stressed driver. Everything turned out fine and they were able to get the van up the driveway on the second attempt, but mommy had to walk all the way up the driveway with the two boys since daddy drove up there by himself. Things went well at the park, but a mistake was made when they decided to try hike what was described an an "EASY" trail of less than a mile. Daddy pushed Carson in his stroller and got stuck every other step on a root or rock or anything else. They also had to carry the stoller down and then up an enourmous set of steps. This was certainly an indication to the grown ups just how out of shape they are.

Just as it was time to leave on Saturday morning, there was room for just one more dramatic event. Eevn after being extra careful to prevent any more major problems - it was not avoided. It took forever to get the van loaded back up with the stuff, but after doing so, Marcus and Kim took one last "walk-thru" around the cabin to make sure they got everything. Somehow, they both missed the digital camera and two water bottles that they had left out in plain view on the kitchen table. They locked the door and headed out. About 5 seconds after the door was pulled shut, Marcus asked Kim if she got the camera off the table and of course the answer was no. Luckily, after some freaking out on daddy's behalf, they were able to call the owners from a neighbors phone and were told where they could find an extra key hidden outside. "At least we were not locked outside naked" Kim pointed out, looking at the bright side.

Despite the unnecessary drama, the stay at the cabin was terrific. The cabin itself was really nice and very comfortable and cozy. They got to see two bald eagles, many deer, and a flock of wild turkeys. Marc and Kim got to enjoy the hot tub every evening after the youngsters hit the sheets. There was also plenty of exciting billiards action, but don't ask Kim who won the pool contests. The Whited's also befriended two cute kitties during their stay. "I liked meeting the kitty cats and taking care of them" said Jackson.

Lisa's Big Rock

Lisa and Dan made news last week when her engagement ring was featured in an article in the Cincinnati Enquirer. This photo was found on the "front page" of the paper's website on Thursday, July 7. Click the link below to see the article.

Editor's note: Way to make all us other husbands look bad, Dan! Thanks to Laura Whited for passing the info along.

Oh I guess it was probably aound 23 or 24 years ago when "The Whited News" was created as a way to keep family members abrest of the latest news within the family. Due to it's suprising popularity, "The Whited News" continued in circulation for 2 or 3 years and apparently provided much entertainment for it's readers. Way back then, the staff of the newspaper would handwrite the text on notebook paper and then it was photocopied and mailed out to more than a dozen loyal subscribers. As I was mowing a few days ago, I began to think about how it was good for our family to keep in touch in that way and how much easier it would be to provide such information in today's new innovations and technology - specifically blogs. So here we go. Now, I know what you all are saying. The Whited News was popular primarily because it would disclose, from a 9-year-olds honest ( and sometimes "too much information") perspective the events surounding the family. This included everything from "Tootsie Swims" which accounted the night the hamster was found swimming in the toilet at 1:00am, to "Tom Fired" when Tom Whited was fired from his "newspaper copier" position by his brother Marc over something that was was sure to be something juveniley trivial. (I remember Tom sacastically stating that he was just so upset about it because he would not be making his 5 cents/hour salary).

So you cannot expect this type of juvenile article writing. It may not seem like it, but I think I have grown up a little. What you can expect is updates on any family news, photos (see this recent shot of Carson and Jackson), whatever. All with the ease of simply visiting the website:

http://thewhitednews.blogspot.com

I will strongly encourage people to make their own contributions to "The Whited News". This can be done in the form of an email to the publisher (
mkwhited@yahoo.com) or by simply posting your own comment to an article directly on the site. So my goal over the next few days is to get the word out that "The Whited News" is back.
